As Mechatronics Lead for TMAV, I designed a drone package gripper & winch system for a multi-rotor drone to safely pickup and dispose of potentially hazardous packages.

Key achievements:

  • Helped our team win 1st place in the AEAC national student competition
  • Programmed an Arduino Nano to control the system
  • Integrated 2 stepper motors to control rotation and elevation of the gripper
  • Used 1 servo motor to control the position of the claws
  • Implemented interconnection with the receiver to enable remote control
  • Designed gear systems to increase torque for the gripper rotation
  • Developed a planetary gear system for the winch
